Artistic director of the company Metamorphosis, Isabelle Olivier explores a new vision of the harp, at the crossroads of jazz, classical, contemporary and traditional.
Her approach is illustrated in bold risk-taking and openness to permanent multiple collaborations. Her shows are always presented to the public in a desire for otherness and proximity.
Harpist of exception sought both in classical music as well as jazz and contemporary music, composer sought by Agnes Varda, Adbel Kéchiche or Emilie Valantin among others, Isabella Oliver has released her 5th album in 2009, Enja/Harmonia Mundi "My Foolish Harp" with Peter Erskine, Louis Sclavis, Youn Sun Nah, and David Venitucci who is praised by the press and the public.
Holder of certificate of competency, she has taught harp since 1988 and regularly holds master classes in France and abroad.
Metamorphosis presented by Isabelle Olivier "I am always looking for new sounds, new alchemy, to unveil a musical based on the acoustic harp. I even added some accessories to deflect the sound of the instrument. My original pieces are constructed with a poetic and playful research from the fundamentals of music: melody, harmony and rhythm. Changing one of these fundamentals allows me for example, to divert some standard or very old songs to create a new bearer of the imaginary universe in me.
My constant challenge is to enable all the invited artists to express themselves fully by offering music that can be inspiring and fun to interpret. The challenge is to compose simple shapes, clearly. "
